Complete Internet Movie Database

You just can't remember the name of THAT movie that THAT actor was in with the funny name. You and your friend are debating which movie contained a particular quote. Or perhaps you have discovered a character actor that you really like & want to find out what other movies he has been in. If you find yourself doing any of these things, then this web site is definitely for you. The Internet Movie Database is a comprehensive site with info listed by movie, actor/actress, and other areas, in addition to a quote search feature. They will also tell you if the movie is available (and in what formats...DVD or VCR) in America, England, or Germany. This is a helpful item for you NetFlix users to find out if a movie is available in DVD yet. So the next time you can't think of that bit of info that's "right on the tip of my tongue", head to this web site... http://www.imdb.com

ChemLites/Glow Sticks

They are known as ChemLites or Glow Sticks, small hollow plastic "sticks" filled with liquid. When the stick is bent, a small capsule with another chemical inside the tube breaks and when the chemicals mix, you have illumination. While they used to be found only in military/camping supply stores, they can now be found in department stores, and other common places. They are wonderful for emergency lighting (no batteries to go bad), but kids also have a lot of fun with them. For those of you with kids who use them (of if you use them on a regular basis), we have a tip to make them last a little longer, courtesy of my niece Leah F. When you are done using them, or if you children have fallen asleep, take the ChemLites and put them in the freezer. They won't freeze up, but it seems to double their life of light.

DNA Kits for Kids or Adults

In light of recent abductions and night-club tragedies, you might be interested in a company that offers do-it-yourself DNA kits. With a DNA kit you can help to identify your child if they are found in an abductor's custody & there is some question of identity, and, God forbid, if a tragedy occurs and a positive ID needs to be made. The military is doing this for all their people now, and it never hurts for civilians to do it as well. The DNA kit is very inexpensive and tells you how to collect hair, nails, do a mouth swab, and how to store the samples. The company also sells fingerprinting kits, and bike helmet emergency stickers. For more info go to... http://www.fingerprintamerica.com If you don't have internet access you can call them at 888-372-1999 or 518-435-1609. The company also promotes advertising give-aways so keep an eye out & you may be able to get them free. If you live in Virginia, check with your local car dealers; some are currently giving away the kits.

POST IT...with your child's most recent photo and statistics (height, weight, etc.).

Easier Credit Bureau Check

In past articles we have advised checking your credit histories with the big three credit bureaus at least once a year. It used to be easy to do with just a phone call, but over the last few years I dread having to do it. Every year they want more info, or want it mailed it, or you have to fill out so many forms that you begin to feel as though YOU are the one providing the report. Recently I found a site that, while it may cost slightly more than doing it on your own, you can provide just a small amount of info and get reports from all three credit bureaus in nice side-by-side columns. You may have heard an ad for http://www.freecreditreport.com. I don't recommend getting that "free" credit report, because it automatically enrolls you in a service that is charged to your credit card, and there have been Better Business Bureau complaints about this. However, down at the bottom of the main page in small print it says, "3 Bureau Online Credit Report". Click on this page, enter the info & get your report right there online. If your time is worth something to you, if you are a recent victim of the Tricare hack, the credit card hack, or the Monster (Job Site) scam, then this is something you might want to try. For those of you who asked if I thought you should check your children's histories, I recently read an article that said that while some children's info is being used in fraud, that you should NOT routinely check their histories. By requesting a check, a history is created and the info could possibly be used in fraud. So unless you start seeing ads in the mail with your child's name, or other indicators that something odd is going on, don't do a check.

Recipe: Summertime Tea

We STILL have snow on the ground here in the DC area, but we can dream can't we. Here's a recipe for Summertime Tea. Steep 8 regular tea bags (or 2 family sized) in 4C almost boiling water for 5 min. Mix 6 oz. orange juice concentrate, thawed, 6 ox. lemonade concentrate, thawed, and 1 1/2C sugar in a gallon container. Combine tea and approximately 10C of water. Stir well. Add more water until the liquid measures one gallon. Serve over ice. Garnish with lemon and orange slices. Stir often while serving as the juices will settle. Final Words

JOKE (a joke quote)

“No diet will remove all the fat from your body because the brain is entirely fat. Without a brain, you might look good, but all you could do is run for public office.”

--George Bernard Shaw

QUOTE

"It has been well said that no man ever sank under the burden of the day. It is when to-morrow's burden is added to the burden of to-day that the weight is more than a man can bear. Never load yourselves so, my friends. If you find yourselves so loaded, at least remember this: it is your own doing, not God's. He begs you to leave the future to Him, and mind the present."

--George MacDonald (1824-1905)
