POST IT...near your phone. * * * * * * * Smooth & Easy Shower RingsOkay, admit it, you often find yourself wrestling with your shower rings. They always seem to catch on an edge somewhere, or don't move as smoothly as you would like. So you tug, & jerk, & lift, & practically have to move every single ring by hand every night. Well, we found a product that can make your wrestling days a thing of the past. These shower rings are made of metal, but have rolling metal balls on the top of the ring. So they easily roll over the bumps & catches. They come in brass or nickel metal. While they are a little pricier than plastic rings, they won't have to be replaced as often, being sturdier, AND will make up for the money with the elimination of the nightly shower curtain battles. Linens N Things had them for the lowest price I could find, watch for their monthly discount coupons to save even more. Here's the link to get a better view. They run about $11 & are called Clipperton Roller Shower Rings. I think this would also be a great little gift idea for elderly family & friends, who would like things a little easier. POST IT...on your shopping list. * * * * * * * Lupus TestingA few years ago, some doctors thought that I might have lupus & made an appt for me to see a specialist. Before the appointment I had contacted the Lupus Foundation of American (http://web4.xor.com/lupus/ ) and requested an information packet. One of the best resources in that pack, was a little brochure entitled, "Laboratory Tests Used in the Diagnosis of Lupus" (http://web4.xor.com/lupus/topics/laboratory.html). Not only did it have a list of possible lupus symptoms, but also 6 different lab tests that could be done to help determine whether it was more likely to be lupus or some other autoimmune condition. So when the specialist told me that we could just wait to see if I developed any more symptoms, I asked why we couldn't do some or all of the lab tests to speed things up a bit. He said, and I quote, "What tests?" I had brought the brochure with me & was able to show him exactly what was recommended. He ordered 4 of the 6 tests & we were able to determine that I didn't have lupus, but another autoimmune problem, instead of waiting to see if other symptoms developed. Lupus is very difficult to diagnose, & with doctors who aren't even aware of tests that can be done, it is no wonder than it often takes YEARS of symptoms before a diagnosis is made. So if you or someone you care about has been suffering from a variety of vague or seemingly unrelated symptoms, check out the web site or the brochure, & talk to your doctor with brochure in hand (applicable symptoms highlighted). Be a partner with your doctor in your care.) * * * * * * * Recipe: Walking Tacos (From Kathy K.-THANK YOU!)Brown 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (rinse with hot water after browning to remove even more of the fat), then add & brown 1 small chopped onion, 1 tsp garlic salt, and salt & pepper to taste. Cut 1/4" off top of 10 (2 3/4 oz) bags of corn or tortilla chips (EDITOR'S NOTE: To save a little extra, you can buy larger bags & pour a few chips into quart size sandwich or Ziploc bags). Crush chips slightly. Fill bags w/cooked ground beef mixture. Top with 2C shredded lettuce, 1 C chopped tomatoes, 1C shredded cheese, 1C sour cream, and 1 can chopped black olives (drained)...all divided. Stick fork in bag & serve. Offer taco sauce. Vary topping ingredients to taste. For a little more spice, try adding taco seasoning in the ground meat mixture. This would be a great recipe for parties for teens or even younger children. It also makes clean up easy. This issue has some great tips, also sent in by Kathy K, on how to dress & prepare for those professional school or family photos. The only thing that I might add is that most of the time the backgrounds are light blue, so you might want to go with a color other than blue. Check out the rest of the tips in this issue. You also have a great Party Dip recipe from the Casinellis, AND a single restaurant tip that can save you $4 on every bill for the average family of 4. All this and much more.
