FREE Satellite Photo of Your Home

Here's a fun web site and it is absolutely free. If you live in the USA, then you just enter in your address & the screen will display a satellite photo of your home & surrounding area, along with a map, so you can tell where the streets are. If you live in other countries they do have satellite photos of cities around the world. You can also direct the photo to move in the direction you want to view. If you want to have some fun, pull up the addresses of friends or family & send the link to them, or just the photo. But then give them the web site, so they can have some fun too. :-) Check it out at http://www.globexplorer.com, then click on "Viewer" or "Explore". POST IT...near your computer.

Cell Phone Service Comparison Site

Okay, everyone who got a cell phone for Christmas, raise your hands...sorry, I forgot this isn't TV, but I know there must be quite a few out there. Now the question is, which company has the best service for what you want to do with that phone? If you only want it for emergency service, just remember that you don't have to pay ANY monthly fees, companies are required to put through 911 calls from ANYONE, although the companies are loath to admit it. Most services also have a feature where you can make collect calls free in a pinch, although it is VERY expensive for the person receiving the call. But fine for calling the family in emergencies. HOWEVER, if you do want to use the phone for more than just emergencies, here is a web site where you can punch in your usage info (or how you plan to use it) and it will tell you the best plans for you. This is also great for any of you cell phone veterans to use to make sure you have the best plan for YOUR usage. Check it out at http://www.point.com/default.asp. Here's a good article from a local TV station that makes some excellent suggestions on what to look for in plans http://www.wraltv.com/features/consumerreports/2000/1225-cel l-phones/. POST IT...on your computer, in your phone book under telephone, & on your calendar (everyone should check ALL their phone plans every 6 months to make sure that something better hasn't come around).

Sleep, to Avoid Weight Gain (Yes, Really).

Here's a tip (used with permission) from the RealAge people, for all you people out there with losing weight on your resolution list... "Sleep on It" - "Want to avoid middle-aged gain? Getting enough quality sleep may help you steer clear of it. A recent study reveals that middle-aged weight gain may be due to a lack of deep sleep, known as slow wave sleep. As people age, they tend to get less slow wave sleep, which can cause a decrease in growth hormone. Growth hormone deficiencies have been associated with certain kinds of weight gain. RealAge Benefit: Getting 6-8 hours of sleep per night can make your RealAge as much as 3 years younger. To calculate your accurate RealAge, & receive personalized recommendations on how you can make your RealAge younger, please visit www.RealAge.com (c)2000, RealAge, Inc. All rights reserved. RealAge shall not be liable for any errors or delays in the content, or for any action taken in reliance thereon." EDITOR'S NOTE: I might venture to say that getting enough sleep would help you with practically any resolution, whether it is physical, parenting, marital, mental, emotional, or spiritual. POST IT...by the clocks in your home, use it as a bookmark in books you are reading or your TV Guide.

Charity Click Sites (the REAL ones :-)

Unfortunately there are a lot of hoaxes out there..."click on this" and "we'll donate this" to charity. Well, here are some sites that ARE legit and if you click then advertisers agree to donate certain amounts for so many clicks to particular charities. So check them out & click away... http://www.greatergood.comhttp://www.freedonation.com, http://www.aidforteens.com, http://www.givingpool.org. Now all the clicks might seem overwhelming if you tried to do them all at once, but maybe you could manage a click a day/week? POST IT...on your computer.

Recipe: Potato Cheese Soup (Great for Super bowl Parties)

We all like to keep those football parties easy, and here's an easy recipe that might be a welcome change from the big pot of chili. A real stick to the ribs soup made the easy way. Prepare a can of your favorite store bought potato soup (or make your own if you have the time), add 1C chopped celery, & 1C shredded cheddar cheese. Sprinkle paprika lightly over top of soup & stir in. If desired add chopped cooked chicken, onions, or bigger potato chunks, make the soup your own. Heat through, pour into bowls or big mugs, & sprinkle a little extra cheese & paprika on top before serving. POST IT...on your shopping list, & in your recipe box.

Back Issue Treasure: December 1, 1997 Issue -Easy

This back issue has a great & easy (can you tell I like EASY recipes :-) fudge recipe, but what the issue doesn't tell you is that you can make it & instead of pouring it into a pan, you can use your hands to work it into a football shape. A little white frosting to make the laces & you have a great dessert for that super bowl table. The issue has lots of other great recipes and a link to the ultimate cookie recipe web site. Just click on "December 1, 1997", above.  To explore more back issues, just click on "More Back Issues", below, to get your hands on more blasts from the past. POST IT...near your computer.

Final Words

JOKE

Okay, this isn't really a joke, but I thought it was humorous enough to fit in this category... "How far would Moses have gone if he had taken a poll in Egypt?" --Quote from Harry S Truman

QUOTE

"As a rule, there is no surer way to the dislike of men than to behave well where they have behaved badly."

--Lew Wallace, American Author ("Ben Hur"), (1827-1905)

Editor's Note: What a wonderful quote to explain to our children to help them deal with peer pressure.
