Don't Get a Lemon (Car)

If you are shopping for a used Christmas car, then here is a web site to help you avoid a car with a bad history. Carfax will do a free lemon check for you. You get the Vehicle ID Number (VIN) of the car you are interested in buying and enter it into the web site along with your zip code. They will be able to tell you if the car has a clean history or a history of problems. These problems could include odometer fraud, flood damage, accident damage, fire damage, or other problems. Go to http://wsf.carfax.com/cfm/general_check.cfm?partner=sag_0  POST IT...in the yellow pages under Automobile Dealers/Used, or in your glove compartment.

Laughter IS the Best Medicine

Several news articles recently discussed an experiment at Texas Tech University. They found that students' tolerance for pain INCREASED following the viewing of a comedy video. "Biochemically, laughter seems to cause the release of natural painkillers that combat arthritis and other inflammatory conditions...it may also slow the release of some stress hormones." They have found that after you are done laughing that your blood pressure drops, breathing slows, & muscle tension subsides. Just think how good you feel when you have laughed so hard that you cried & how relaxed you feel afterwards. So if you have a family member in poor health, why not hit your video source for those comedies. Couldn't hurt & it might just help. POST IT...in your medicine cabinet.

Speaking of Laughter...

Now anyone who knows me will tell you that I am the LAST person to get into a buying program where they send you something every few weeks with the option to buy. BUT...I have come across an offer that I may end up giving in to. Columbia House is releasing unedited, restored episodes of "The Carol Burnett Show" that ran from 1967-1978. Each tape contains 2 one hour episodes & new interviews with the cast members & trivia. Who can forget the "Gone with the Wind" parody where Carol was wearing the curtain dress...complete with curtain rods for shoulder pads. And when the cast had trouble keeping straight faces it just made it all that more hysterical. This is great true family comedy. They are releasing 10 episodes (5 tapes) to begin with. If you are old enough to remember this show, then you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't ever seen the show, you don't know what you are missing. To order & get more info, go to http://www.columbiahouse.com then follow the prompts for "TV Greats". Or call 1-800-457-0866. POST IT...by your computer.

Final Words

JOKE (Email Forward Via Terry)

I was traveling to Seattle on business. Knowing how the weather is up there (and lacking proper clothing), I went to a local outdoor shop for inclement weather clothing. Not finding what I was looking for, I went to another. Then another. Finally a salesman suggested that I go to Rudolph's. "Rudolph's?", I said, surprised. "Do you mean the Russian specialty store?" To which the salesman answered, "Rudolph the Red knows rain gear". :-)

QUOTE

"Loss is underestimated in America...I don't think you learn anything good from winning. It just feels good, it feels great. You jump around. Wonderful, great feeling. But loss you think about. Loss makes you change the way you do things. Loss makes you consider how to do things differently. You never want to lose again after you've lost like we did that season."

--Pat Conroy (author of "The Great Santini", "Prince of Tides") on writing about his losing basketball season.
