It Never Hurts to Ask

Said it before, but I'll say it again, it never hurts to let your voice be heard. If you like a product, call the company & praise it. If you have a problem with a product, then let the company hear that too. You never know what may happen as a result. Recently I discovered that my less than 2 yr old Sharp microwave had begun to rust at the seams. Even though it was out of warranty by about a year, the company had it checked by a service center & then replaced it with a brand new microwave. Does this make me want to buy Sharp again, you bet. I had a similar situation with a Symphonic VCR before the Sharp call and the operator's attitude was "yeah so???". Needless to say I won't be buying their brand again. I may not have gotten a new VCR, but if I had given up calling to voice my opinion, then I would never have gotten a new microwave. Another case in point, I purchased a "Body for Life" book and had only been using it for a month when it came apart from the binding. I called the company to ask about contacting the publisher & the company insisted on sending me a new copy of the book. I love Pepperidge Farm cranberry bread & praised it, but asked why their raisin bread seems dry, and they ended up sending me $3 worth of coupons. Now I don't spend all day on the phone doing this (all these things happened over a couple of months), but it never hurts to be a vocal consumer. POST IT...near your shopping list.

Job Hunting Sites

If you are looking for a new or improved job, here is a web site for you. It lists the 100 top job hunting sites in order of popularity. It is constantly being updated too, so you can see which sites seem to be on their way down & which are on the way up in popularity. They have quite a variety, some are international, some national, some local, some job specific. Avoid web sites where you have to pay a fee to use their services, there are just too many free ones out there to fork out cash for that. Go to http://www.100hot.com/directory/business/jobs.html. And remember the best way to uncover job vacancies that may not be advertised is to network with family, friends, or others who might know someone in the field. And speaking of networking, if any of you know someone in Colorado who is looking for an experienced Information Technology Manager, our webmaster is definitely interested. :-) You can check out his resume at http://home.att.net/~make-a-note/resume.htm . POST IT...on your favorites page.

Job Hunting Books

As you know, I am a big fan of the "...For Dummies" books, and job hunting is no exception. "Job Hunting For Dummies/ Job Interviews for Dummies" has just about every angle covered.  But a less well known book, that is the best interview book I have come across is "101 Great Answers to Toughest Interview Questions".  If this one doesn't prepare you for the big interview, nothing will.  POST IT...on your shopping list, or in the yellow pages under "employment agencies".

Preventative Maintenance for your Computer

Our webmaster has helped solve numerous personal computer problems over the years and so I asked him for a list of the most common preventative maintenance measures that computer owners fail to take. Failing to take these measures can lead to problems, so it is a lot wiser to prevent, rather than fix. Here is the list he came up with:

  1. Routinely scanning & defragmenting your hard-drive.
  2. Correctly uninstalling software.
  3. Routinely updating your anti-virus software signature files.
  4. Using a surge protector for power & telephone surge protection.

If you need further instruction on how to do any of the above, you can go to our web site's Bonus Page for complete instructions. POST IT...near your computer.

Coming Attractions

For the Bonus Page on the web site, we are working on a Moving Checklist, and additional "Diet for a Poisoned Planet" food lists. For future issues of the ezine, we are working on an issue devoted entirely to home schooling, but the resources would also be wonderful supplements to public/private school students. So keep on reading.

JOKE (Adapted from an email forward)

"Due to the expected high voter turnout, the government has requested that voting take place over a 2 day period. All (Pick Your Political Party-Republicans, Democrats, or others) should vote on Tuesday. All other parties should report to the polls on Wednesday. Thank you for your consideration." :-)
