NOTE: Each entry has a suggested "POST IT..." location at the end. We recommend that you print out the ezine, cut out each entry, & post it in these locations to make it easier for you to find when you need it. And if you like what you read, be sure to pass it on to someone else who can use it. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * FREE Computer Curriculum for Teachers (Home, Private, or Public)This info comes to us via Lynn Hogan, who also does a great homeschooling ezine. The curriculum is called "The Journey Inside" and features "in-depth, easy-to-use materials to de-mystify computers & teach the science behind computers & microprocessor technology". It includes a 340 page teacher's guide, 2 videos, poster, & extensive microchip kit. The student video is done like a kids' news broadcast w/the kids reporting from different locations. The only thing they ask is that after you use the material, you fill out a feedback form. Teachers of science, math, or computers in grades 5-9 can order this material and it is VERY professionally done. I think it could be adapted for use with any grade level. You can order it by calling 1-800-346-3029 or by going to their web site at http://secure.wesweb.com/intel/form.htm and printing out their order form. Thanks again to Lynn for sharing this with us, check out her web site at http://www.konos-mom.com/notes.html. POST IT...by your phone or computer. * * * * * * * "Not Just Beans" Book/Web SiteI LOVE cookbooks, but it isn't often that I read one that keeps me chuckling too. Tawra Kellam has produced a cookbook/household hint book that is a joy to read. My daughter kept saying, "What are you laughing about mommy?" as I was looking through it. This wonderful book has over 540 recipes and 400 money saving tips. It is a book that I wish someone had given me when I first got married, because it is filled with basic easy recipes but also new ones that will become family favorites. It has a chapter on making things like playdough & bubble juice for kids, recipes for mixes along with great ideas on putting together your own gift baskets with recipes included. This is just one that you need to have on your shelf. I thought I had read every hint there was on saving money, but there were a lot of things that were new to me. One thing I love in her cookbook AND web site is a chart on how much certain things add up over the course of a year (to show how those nickels & dimes add up). Just wait to see how much that weekly delivered pizza is actually costing you. So check out her web site at http://www.notjustbeans.com. Shipping is currently free if you order the $14.95 book through her site or email address tawra@notjustbeans.com, but you can also order through Amazon.com: Not Just Beans: 50 Years of Frugal Family Favorites, if you prefer, you just need to pay the shipping. POST IT...by your computer and on your recipe shelf!:-) * * * * * * * Scholarship SitesIt is getting to be that time of year when college will be starting up again & those bills join in. Here are two more FREE scholarship databases for you to check out. You enter your info & they tell you what's out there for you. http://www.Scholarships.com and http://www.FastWeb.com. With all the free info out there, it is a very good idea to stay away from people that charge you money to find scholarships for which you are eligible. It is kind of like paying someone to find a job or lost money for you, most of the time the free services will do the job just as well. Many colleges also have web pages that link you to free scholarship web sites like UCLA's http://www.college.ucla.edu/up/SRC/SS.htm If you do not have web site access, use library computers to check things out. Often you can even apply online. POST IT...near your computer. * * * * * * * Bean Goulash Recipe (from "Not Just Beans")Brown 1/2 lb hamburger, 1/2 lb bacon, 1 stalk celery chopped, & 1 small onion chopped. Then mix in 1 (15 oz) can kidney beans (or 2C cooked beans), 1 (15 oz) can butter beans, 1 (15 oz) can pork & beans, 1 Tbsp vinegar, 1/2 tsp dry mustard, 1/2C BBQ sauce or catsup, 1/2C sugar, and 1/2C brown sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 min, or put in the crock pot on low for 1-2 hours. POST IT...in your recipe box. * * * * * * * CURRENT MOST POPULAR BACK ISSUE:
* * * * * * * JOKE (FROM "NOT JUST BEANS"-See Order Info Above)Recipe for Elephant Soup Ingredients: 1 Elephant, salt & pepper, 2 rabbits (optional) Cut the elephant into bite-size pieces. This will take about 3 months. Salt & pepper to taste. Cook over kerosene fire at 470 degrees for about 8 days. This will serve 3,800 people. If more are expected, add 2 rabbits. Do this only if necessary since most people do not like to find HARE in their stew. * * * * * * * QUOTES (FROM "NOT JUST BEANS")"The quickest way to make a tossed salad is to feed vegetables to an 18-month-old child." "If you have melted chocolate all over your hands, you're eating it too slowly." "Tact is the ability to close your mouth before someone else wants to." --Tawra Jean Kellam, "Not Just Beans" * * * * * * * FEEDBACK-FEEDBACK-FEEDBACKre: Antibacterial Soaps It has been a while since an article has generated this much mail (glad to know you are all still reading :-). There are some experts who believe that the use of antibacterial products, much like antibiotics, will lead to antibiotic resistant organisms. The AMA has recommended that the government evaluate the risk, but nothing has been proven yet. ALL soaps have a certain amount of antibacterial properties (my son would probably volunteer to give up ALL soaps, along with many other children I'm sure :-), but if you are concerned, the point of the article was that using liquid dishwashing detergent (whether antibacterial or not) was apparently just as effective as liquid soap. One reader said that it actually takes longer to rinse the dish detergent off because it is thicker, and so people may wash a little longer, which is good. Bacteria and viruses are constantly mutating, so while we may slow them down, we will never stop the process. For more on this I highly recommend Laurie Garrett's book, available in most libraries, or at Amazon.com: Very balanced & well done, it is a non-fiction book that reads like a novel as it covers the men & women on the front lines of this battle. But whenever you use an antibacterial/antibiotic product, be sure to use it as directed. Thank you to everyone who wrote & provided additional thought provoking info on this issue. POST IT...on your shopping list. * * * * * * * FEEDBACK TO THE EDITORTO SUBSCRIBE TO MAKE-A-NOTE EZINESend a blank email to: subscribe-make-a-note@hub.thedollarstretcher.com TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM MAKE-A-NOTE EZINESend a blank email to: unsubscribe-make-a-note@hub.thedollarstretcher.com THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF PASTOR WILSON'S HARD WORK AS OUR LIST MANAGER!!
