We recommend that you print out the ezine, cut out each entry, & post it in these locations to make it easier for you to find when you need it. And if you like what you read, be sure to pass it on to someone else who can use it. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Computer Virus ProtectionAs, I'm sure, you have read in the news, some people have nothing better to do than to create computer viruses that wreak havoc with our computers. Most of us have heard that you should never open an attachment from anyone you don't know, but now viruses may have the appearance of coming from people we know. The 2 BEST things you can do is back up all of your material at least once a week AND have anti-viral software and update it weekly also (AND whenever a new virus rears its ugly head). Another thing you can do if you use Windows 98 is to turn off your Windows Scripting Host. Very few of us use the Scripting Host in our computer work, and with this feature turned off it prevents ILOVEYOU, Melissa, NewLove, & viruses like them from propagating on your computer. If you have Windows 98 go to your Start Menu, click on Settings, then click on Control Panel, then double click on Add/Remove Programs, click on Windows Components or Windows Setup, double click on Accessories, uncheck the box for Windows Scripting Host (should be on the bottom of the list). POST IT...on your computer. EDITOR'S NOTE: Be sure to check out our virus links in our featured back issue down below.
* * * * * * * FREE Craft Classes for KidsOkay summer is here and you may already be hearing the lovely strains of that familiar tune, "There's nothing to doooooo...I'm bored". Even if you are on a tight budget there are tons of free things out there to do with your family, and I do think the best things are things you do TOGETHER. Most of us know to check out our local libraries which always have crafts, movies, & other activities in addition to all those wonderful books (& videos too). But don't forget to check out Arts & Crafts Stores to see if they offer any freebies or low cost classes. My mom recently brought to my attention that even Home Depot stores have FREE kids' programs. Each Home Depot varies as to how often the class is offered, but in our area (Fayetteville, NC) they do it the last Sat of every month with pre-cut pieces of wood that they put together to make things like tool carriers, banks, and boats. Be sure to check with all of these places to see if you need to sign up; some have limited space for the classes. If the class you want, perhaps swimming lessons, requires a payment, call around. There is a big difference in prices. In our area 2 different pools (one on an Army post, the other on an AF base) both charge $25 for lessons, but the Army one also charges a $25 membership fee and their lessons are 15 min shorter, so guess where we signed up. :-) POST IT...near your calendar & phone. * * * * * * * FREE Breathe Right SampleFor all of you out there who are interested in giving the Breathe Right nasal strips a try, call 1-800-211-0607. They will send you a free set of samples along with coupons for future purchases if you like them. While I have never used them myself, I have talked with people who say they work wonders for snoring, sports, and when you are congested. POST IT...by your phone. * * * * * * * How to Buy a SwimsuitMost swimsuits are just made too small, so don't feel bad if you end up buying a suit that is a couple of sizes bigger than your street clothes size. A suit that is too small for your body, does nothing except make you look big. I've noticed they even run small in little girl suits, my size 8 daughter, had to go up to a size 12 suit before she stopped feeling like she was being squeezed out. Most of the following ideas are designed for one piece suits, I'm afraid (along with a lot of MOMS out there) that I just find them much more flattering than 2 piece suits, not to mention that the more of your skin you can cover the more you protect yourself from skin cancer & premature aging of your skin. If any area looks bigger than you like, you want the part of the suit that covers that to be in a darker color. If you are small in an area & would like to appear larger, then cover it w/light colors. LARGE BEHIND-look for a suit w/a dark skirt to cover the problem area & appear to reduce it AND a light colored top to draw attention upwards. CHUBBY BACK-look for suits that cover the back as much as possible. TUMMY BULGE-look for a suit that has a dropped waist & lighter color on top that draws the eye up & away from the waist. TO DE-EMPHASIZE LARGE BUST-look for diagonal lines & front wraps. LARGE WAIST-look for belted suits. SMALL BUST-go for suits that start out light on top & gradually get darker as they get closer to the bottom, also horizontal stripes on top are good. LARGE HIPS-look for suits that have black side panels that come a bit to the front w/a colored panel in a V shape in front. SMALL HIPS-horizontal stripes over hips. POST IT...on your shopping list. * * * * * * * Hand Me Down Parties for MomsWith a new season starting, many of us are looking in our closets & thinking to ourselves, "I need to go shopping!". But wait, Carole Ann P. gave me a great idea, why not have a Hand-Me-Down party for Moms? Call all your friends and have them go through their closets/drawers, pull out everything that doesn't fit AND those things that are perfectly good clothes, but you just never wear them (maybe you don't really like them). Then have everyone bring them over & do some swapping. So often something that WE may not like, looks great on someone else. Not only will everyone have a bunch of "new" clothes to choose from, but also a room-full of objective opinions from like-minded ladies. A great way to save money, clean out your closet, AND get some "new" things to wear. Anything left over should be taken to the nearest thrift store. POST IT...near the phone & your closet. By the way, Carole Ann, thanks for the clothes. :-) * * * * * * * FREE Ringling Bros. She said that for her wedding she is going to have her bridesmaids wear the bridesmaid dresses that they had her wear in THEIR weddings. Sounds fair to me. Any engaged women rethinking their dress choices? :-)--from a TV Guide article * * * * * * * QUOTE"In a golf book I read recently, the author told about making a nearly impossible shot around a tree by hitting the ball high & letting the strong wind carry it toward the green. A good golfer makes use of the wind, rather than fighting it. He allows the winds to push his ball where it will, instead of trying to battle & control the winds. As it is in golf, so it is in life. Our lives are often battered by storms that attack our confidence, our resources , and our plans. But as Christians, we understand that God is in all of those gales. He is there with us, using the storms to shape our character. We can either become embittered by the winds of life, or we can allow them to make us better, stronger people." ----David Jeremiah * * * * * * * FEEDBACK TO THE EDITORTO SUBSCRIBE TO MAKE-A-NOTE EZINESend a blank email to: subscribe-make-a-note@hub.thedollarstretcher.com TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM MAKE-A-NOTE EZINESend a blank email to: unsubscribe-make-a-note@hub.thedollarstretcher.com THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF PASTOR WILSON'S HARD WORK AS OUR LIST MANAGER!!
