NOTE: Each entry has a suggested "POST IT..." location at the end. We recommend that you print out the ezine, cut out each entry, & post it in these locations to make it easier for you to find when you need it. And if you like what you read, be sure to pass it on to someone else who can use it. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * MAKE A NOTE SEARCH ENGINE UPDATEWell, all the back issues are now connected to our search engine, with the exception of a few stray issues. So if you can't remember which issue had the story on whatever you were looking for, just type in the word and it will search the whole Make A Note web site. Let us know what you think. A big thank you to our webmaster for all his hard work. Go to http://home.att.net/~make-a-note/ and click on "Back Issues". POST IT...by your computer. * * * * * * * INVESTING 101 FOR KIDSThis is a site for kids to learn all about saving and investing, including things like the stock market, mutual funds, bonds, and much more. BUT there are probably a lot of adults that could also benefit from all the wonderful information on this site. There are games and plenty of info to keep the kids busy for hours (in that case, maybe you should invest in an ISP :-). You can also click on different levels (Beginner, Intermediate, etc.) and they also have an Educators' section. The creator of the site is still a teenager but has a portfolio worth over $500,000! Remember it is important not only to teach our children how to save, but also how to invest wisely. Check it out at http://library.thinkquest.org/3096/ POST IT...by your computer. * * * * * * * COMPREHENSIVE CANCER BOOKLET
A friend of mine has put together a wonderful booklet for breast cancer patients. If you or someone you know has been touched by this condition, you will want to request this booklet. It is filled with practical information on almost every single detail on the path you may have to tread. Much of the information is so basic, that you wonder why they have never put it into a booklet before. The best thing about it is that it is absolutely FREE and you can get it by email. You should expect about 7 pages of information. It will not be in the form of an attachment, but just an email message. You can send the request for the booklet to VRBeam@aol.com, and be sure to tell her "THANK YOU for sharing this with us!" This booklet would be helpful to patients in ANY country not just the USA. POST IT...by your computer, and in your medical handbook or dictionary under "cancer". * * * * * * * GROCERY STORE PRICES-WATCH OUT!!Recently I have noticed a trend in grocery stores. It used to be that buying the largest amount of an item, in other words in bulk, meant you got the best price for the amount you were getting. But lately I have noticed that the larger items often run more per unit. Have the manufacturers started to capitalize on the shoppers' assumptions? Not sure, but it (literally) pays to be watchful of the prices. If your store doesn't have the price per unit, bring your calculator. Don't think you have the time? Even if you do a few items each visit, the next time you won't have to check. But watch for price changes. Just an example, buying two 3 packs of microwave popcorn saved me $1.40 over one 6 pack, same brand (and yes, I know that buying the regular popcorn would save me even more :-). Also check out our "Back Issue Treasure" for coupons online. POST IT...with your coupons. * * * * * * * EVER LIVED IN CALIFORNIA??
If you, or someone you know, registered an out of state vehicle in California from 1990-1999 you may be eligible for a $300 refund! It was recently ruled that California should not have collected a $300/vehicle smog fee for out of state vehicles. If you had a vehicle registered in another state or country, and came to California & registered your car there, you are probably owed this money. They are still trying to decide whether the refunds should include interest too. Details still need to be worked out, but claim forms are already available. You can get one online at http://www.dmv.ca.gov and click on "Smog Impact Fees Refund". If you cannot get one online, you can request one from any California DMV office. POST IT...by your computer, or on your errand list. Let me know if you get your refunds! * * * * * * * TRAVEL GAMESWell, Easter vacation is coming & some of you are looking at long car trips with young children with a mixture of happiness and dread. But this can be a wonderful family time with just a little planning. There are wonderful travel games out there and you don't have to pay a lot of money to get them. Check out http://www.Etoys.com and type in "Travel". One item is a 12 in 1 travel box of games including, among others, chess, checkers, & backgammon, all for only $5. I can also recommend the travel toys at http://www.patchproducts.com then click on "Our Products" and then "Travel". Travel Blurt!, Travel TriBond and Travel TriBond for Kids, each one for only $6. In Blurt! players listen to a definition & the first one to blurt it out moves their piece forward (people take turns reading the cards). In TriBond three words are read & you have to figure out what they all have in common, for example Moses, White House, shepherd.....answer "staffs". And while you are at the latter web site check out their assorted balls with motion activated lights inside, kids love them. Want to learn more about each other, try the Ungame or Kids' Choices. Just use the cards you already may have from the board games. Why not use Trivial Pursuit cards alone, or other similar games. And be sure to check out our Back Issue Treasure in this issue for more ideas for free games with NO game pieces to deal with. POST IT...by your computer, or on your shopping list. * * * * * * * "BACK ISSUE TREASURE"--COUPONS, CAR GAMES, GENEALOGY, AND MORE!Check out our May 15th, 1999 back issue for several web sites where you can get all kinds of coupons online. The coupons could be for grocery stores, restaurants, or other businesses. The August 1st, 1999 back issue has several car games for young & old to play on those long trips. Going to visit your family for Easter vacation? Then this is the perfect time to check out the genealogy link in May 15th, 1999 issue also. To request these back issues by email send an email to make-a-note-issues@xc.org and in the subject line or body of the message type in "MAN-020" for the May issue, OR "MAN-025" for the August issue. You should receive the issue(s) promptly by return email. POST IT...by your computer. * * * * * * * JOKEYou might be addicted to the internet if... You see an underlined sentence in the paper & have the urge to point & click it. Your wife drapes a blond wig over the monitor to remind you what she looks like. You haven't played Solitaire with a real deck of cards in years. Your wife says communication is important in a marriage, so you buy another computer & get a second phone line so the two of you can "chat". You have two phone lines but no phone. * * * * * * * QUOTE"The fight is won or lost far away from the witnesses. It is won behind the lines, in the gym and out there on the road.
