Yugoslavian M48A Project

Welcome!
I started this website to detail the restoration and modification of my Yugoslavian model M48A Mauser 98 rifle. I bought this rifle from the local gun store for $130, which I think is a very good deal for a Mauser 98 rifle. This rifle is in very good shape for an old "war horse" that's been stored in an eastern European warehouse for the last 50 years. Other than the normal dents and scratches on the stock and the wear to the bluing, this rifle is in perfectly good condition, including a mirror bright bore. I was originally intending to have all the parts that are supposed to be blued reblued to restore their original appearance, but I decided that letting this rifle show its age would be okay. I won't try to steam out the little dents and scratches in the stock either. After thinking about it for a while I decided that it just wouldn't be right to try to remove the rifle's "history." I will also modify this rifle to improve its overall accuracy, the most drastic change being the ZRAK scope mount system that is currently installed. Previously I had the B-Square setup installed on the rifle, but I decided to go ahead and make the rifle as authentic looking as I could. The only other major alternation that needed to be made to the rifle was to bend the bolt handle down a little more to clear the eyepiece of the scope. I hope you enjoy the website!

What's New?
New! February 18, 2006 New!
This afternoon I've added the K98k Pictures Page 3 with a bunch of new pictures of my completed and reassembled K98k. Still some cleaning to be done in the barrel, but it's almost ready to take to the range. Check it out!

The first two picture pages for my new Yugo-capture K98k have been posted and have some nice pictures of the rifle when I got it home (K98k Pictures Page 1) and when I was thoroughly cleaning the cosmoline off and out of the rifle (K98k Pictures Page 2). Be sure to check it out!

I'm back with a new website design and with some great news! I just ordered a Yugo-rearsenaled German-manufacture K98k rifle from Allan's Aresenal in Florida. The rifle has a laminated stock and a flat buttplate, which is a somewhat unusual combination. More information and pictures as the new project rifle arrives and plans develop!

Sorry about the lack of updates! Not a whole lot happening in Yugo land these days...just the normal target shooting :)

May 10, 2004
I replaced all the pictures on the Images 4 page with some new and much better pictures of my ZRAK-equipped M48A!

Today I've added the Images 4 page, with pictures of my M48A with it's new ZRAK scope rings and bases! Check out the rifle now!

Complete site redesign! I think that this format looks 100% better and it's also easier to navigate and loads faster. Right now my M48A is at the gunsmith's being fitted with a set of brand new ZRAK rings and bases that I bought from Ken at Kebco LLC! As soon as I get the rifle back I'll post some pictures!

Replaced the picture on Picture Page 3 with a lot of new pictures of the rifle with the Weaver medium height rings.

March 2, 2004
Added the Pictures Page 3 page, which is some pictures of my M48A with the Mitchell's Mausers scope mount and Simmons 4x32mm scope installed. The rings in the picture are high-mount, which turned out to be too high. I will be replacing these with medium height rings soon.

Finally, more updates! Today I've added some pictures to the "Pictures 2" page. These are some snap shots of the rifle while it was disassembled for cleaning.

I have all of the "beginning" pages up and running now. As progress is made on the rifle, more pages and content will be added to the site, so stay tuned!
