I have to admit that one of the dearest loves of my life is my bike. I grew up in Pacific Beach, Calif. and I hung out alot at a bar down by Crystal Pier called 'Maynard's'. It was the local HA hangout and they served huge plates full of spaghetti out the back door to local runaways. I ate there often! *S* I soon made friends with a big, burly biker named 'Tiny'. Tiny took me under his wings and taught me much about life. He taught me about honor and brotherhood. Tiny had a '47 Knuckle and the love/obesession began in my heart! I knew that one day I HAD to have a '47 for myself. Every time I rode anywhere with my bros I would watch Tiny and his Knuckle and the lust in my heart for my very own '47 would just continue to grow. It would take alot of years, a dozen other Harley's, a wife, and 2 kids before that dream of mine finally came to fruition. The picture above is my 'love-child'. *S*

I've never been the 'Harley-bago' kind of guy. Give me no front fender, no turn signals except those attached to the ends of my arms, bright flames, stretched-out forks, apehanger bars, shiny chrome, no electric start, and a long and lean look any day of the week. Once a rebel, always a rebel I guess. This bike will be mine until death...it is as much a part of me as an old pair of comfy jeans or boots. I willed it to my oldest grandson (my namesake) the day he was born with stipulations that it can never leave the family. With three grandsons in the family it ought to be insured many future miles. Makes my heart smile to think about one of them riding it twenty years from now! People may think they are riding an antique but they actually will be preserving some of this nation's finest heritage. I think 1947 was the year that the Harley-Davidson Company made it's finest bike...but then I am totally biased! *S*

This bike was resurrected out of Oakland, California. I wanted to achieve a long, lean, and level look. A radical chopper. It is always evolving as new things come out and I get new ideas in my head but the basics remain. The frame is raked and has a 6-inch over wide-glide 41mm front end. Front wheel is a narrow 21-inch chrome-spoke wheel with a Metzler tire. Gas tanks are 3-1/2 gallon fat-bobs. Rear fender is bobbed. The bike is converted to 12 volts with generator and has a Frank's regulator. The engine is the EL model so started out 61 cubic inches. It is currently bored out 30+. Heads are ported and polished and have Manley valves and Rowe guides. I still run the Linkert carb...as long as it remains responsive and delivers the power it will stay. Transmission is standard 4-speed with Andrews gears throughout. Rear wheel is 16-inch chrome-spoke wheel with a Metzler matching tire. Bike is usually a one-kicker and has won numerous trophies, ribbons, and other accolades and has also been featured in American Iron, Iron Horse, and Old Bike Journal magazines!

I just bought brand new cylinders and had them powder-coated red. I also had most of the nuts and bolts gold-plated. I figured that would give a nice contrast to the chrome. I'll post more pictures when these current revisions are completed. Always a work-in-progress. I hope you like what you've seen so far.
