Rock Climbing in 2004
As it turns out, 2004 ended up being a great and diverse climbing year.
Kerry was lucky enough to do some ice climbing in 2004,
but there was a lot more climbing done on rock. Tom got out for the
first time on real rocks (he made it out three times, including
one day of lessons/guiding with Bobby), and Kari also got out onto real
rock three times. Not only did Kerry climb at the Gunks,
but he also made it to Allamuchy and the Delaware Water Gap (both in New
Jersey) and up at the Adirondacks (near Lake Placid).
Kerry also had the opportunity to climb with a LOT of different folks throughout
the year. A partial list includes: Tom, Kari, Sudha,
Rhea, Billy, Jernee, Angelique, Melissa (Angelique's 13 year old daughter),
Rich Dlesk (and some of his climbing buddies - Jim and
Jack- from North Carolina), Amy (Angelique's climbing buddy), Kathy, Eric
B., Daphna, Matt, Bobby, Mark, and Patrik (who moved
out to Colorado at the end of the summer).
The upper left picture (which you can click to see a larger view) shows the
kids (Kari, Melissa, and Tom) at the swimming hole
up at the Gunks, whereas the other picture shows Sudha leading Triumvirate
at the Delaware Water Gap.
Below is just a quick collage of shots showing some of the partners that
Kerry was able to climb with throughout the year.
In the first set of pictures you see Matt on Airy Aria (this was the first
5.8 that Kerry had LED since he tore his elbow tendon a while
back), then Angelique leading Three Pines, and then Billy on Raubenheimer's
Special.
In the next set of pictures (again all taken up a the Gunks) we see Kathy
at the crux on Arrow, then Jim coming up to the crux on
Drunkard's Delight, the Melissa in the upper off-width of Boston, and them
Tom smoothly moving up on Betty.
Below we see Patrik leading Shockley's Ceiling, and then Rich and Jack watching
Jim do an awesome lead of Apoplexy.
The lower left picture was taken in the Madame G's Northern Pillar area,
and we see Amy rapping down.
Next is a shot of Kerry climbing at the crags at Allamuchy.
Finally, the lower picture is a view of the Near Trapps that we had when
Tom climbed at the Practice Slabs with Bobby. It
was indeed quite a vantage point.
