NEW JERSEY DEVILS RECORD
After the Scouts/Rockies were done in Denver they moved eastward to New Jersey. They became the New Jersey Devils. The Devils are owned by Jeffrey Vanderbeek. The Devils won the Stanley Cup in 1995, 2000, and 2003. In 2001, the Devils faced the Colorado Avalanche for the Stanley Cup. The Avalanche won the Cup, in effect beating the town's former team.
In one for the weird coincidence files, former Kansas City Blades Head Coach Kevin Constantine became the head coach of the Devils and faced former Blades goalie Arturs Irbe in the first round of the NHL playoffs.
After managining to turn the Devils season around and get into the playoffs, Constantine was fired for not making it past the first round opponent, Carolina Hurricanes, who became the Cinderella story of the post season. The Devils replaced Constantine with Pat Burns and won the Stanley Cup, upsetting the Cinderella story of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
Another former Blade that coached the New Jersey Devils was Claude Julien, and after a mostly successful 2006-2007 playoff bound season with the team, he was fired before the end of the season. General Manager Lou Lamoriello took his place behind the bench.
Brent Sutter took over behind the bench for the 2007-2008 season.
