GOD'S EXISTENCE
Do you believe in the existence of God? If so, why? Upon what
evidence do you base your conviction that GOD IS? Can the existence
of God be proved? The answer to this question depends upon what kind
of proof you are talking about. If you are talking about direct,
visual proof -- the answer is "No!" I cannot take your to some place,
and say to you: "See, there is God!" Jesus said, "No one has seen
God at any time" (John 1:18). Hebrews 11:1, states, "Faith is the
substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." But,
there is another kind of proof that is just as reliable. It is
called: indirect, circumstantial evidence. Many people now
incarcerated were convicted as guilty criminals on the basis of
circumstantial evidence. That is to say -- no one actually witnessed
the crime (direct, visual proof), but all the various circumstances
uncovered by investigation led the prosecutor and jury to the
conclusion of guilt! The more circumstances there are which
incriminate the suspect, the stronger the case. Lawyers call this,
"the preponderance of evidence." This means, THERE IS NO DOUBT. In
regard to the existence of God, there is a multitude of
circumstances; fact upon face. Leaving no doubt that GOD IS.
Consider: When we see design, we know there was a designer. When
we observe something that has obvious organization or order, and that
functions effectively, we conclude there was a designer, even though
we did not witness the actual making of that product. We see a house,
for instance, and we know that SOMEONE BUILT IT -- even if we were
not watching when it was build, even if we cannot see the builder.
The existence of a watch proves there was a watchmaker. The existence
of a book proves there was both author and printer. All around us --
everywhere we look -- we see design. In the animal kingdom, among
plants, and there is certainly impressive design in the human mind
and body. These things, which have design, POINT TO THE EXISTENCE OF
A DESIGNER. (See. Job 12:7-10; Psalms 139:14; Psalms 19:1; Romans
1:20; Psalms 14:1.) "No man hath seen God at any time," yet, we can
know of His existence by the preponderance of circumstantial
evidence.
