THE HOME, GOD'S PLAN AND REVELATION CONCERNING IT
Introduction:
1. In our series thus far we have discussed some of the needs
and responsibilities of young people.
2. I stated last week some obligations of parents to YP and what
it should lead YP to do.
3. In this lesson we look into:
THE HOME -- GOD'S PLAN AND REVELATION CONCERNING IT.
I. THE WORD "HOME":
1. Has many meanings -- "dwelling place or house; native
lands; an asylum, etc."
2. But for our thoughts today, we define it: "All the persons
forming one family, a household; a social entity formed by
a family living together." (Webster).
3. Acts 10:2; 16:32; 1 Cor. 1:16; 1 Tim. 3:4;; Titus 1:11.
II. WE CONSIDER THE FIRST HOME (God Made):
1. Gen. 1:1 -- "In the beginning God....." Created all things.
2. Gen. 1:26 -- Man made in God's own image. How careful we
ought to be to give Him the glory and honor that is His!!!
3. Gen. 2:18-26 -- God saw the need for man -- a help meet.
Created WOMAN for this purpose -- a help meet.
State of celibacy is not a good one.
4. (vs 24) -- LEAVE AND CLEAVE -- BECOME ONE.
NOTE: One Man -- One Woman -- One flesh!!!
5. Matt 19:1-9-- "In the beginning..." Two become one.
6. Isn't it interesting, God did not create another man.
"Adam, this is Joe, your help meet."
7. A relationship which man cannot put asunder. Mk 10:9.
Far too many believe that if the civil laws gives a
divorce, then it is granted by God. But, such is
not the case.
That legal under civil law is not necessarily right
under God's law, in His sight!!!
III. GOD'S ARRANGEMENT:
A. HUSBAND IN THIS MARRIAGE: (Young men, you shall become
husbands one day in the very near future. Begin now to be a
good husband, father.)
1. Formed out of the dust of the ground -- Gen 2:7, given
breath of life (animal nature) Gen. 2:7; Given the image
and likeness of God -- Gen 2:26-27; the spirit.
2. Created first and given place of authority -- Eph. 5:22,23;
1 Cor. 11:3; the head of the woman. NOT DOMINEERING--love.
3. Husband is to love wife as his own flesh -- Eph 5:28.
4. Husband to dwell with and give honor to wife -- 1 Pet. 3:7.
5. Husband is to provide for his own house -- 1 Tim. 5:8.
6. Husband is not to be bitter toward wife -- Col. 3:19.
7. Husband is not to defraud the wife -- 1 Cor. 7:1-5.
8. A SHARING TOGETHER: a partnership, a contract in duties and
responsibilities.
9. "Ours, not mine."
B. WIFE IN THIS MARRIAGE: (Young ladies, you shall become wives
on day in the very near future also. So begin now to prepare
for that great responsibility.
1. "Out of man" -- complement to man's nature, made for man.
2. Designed for man -- 1 Cor. 11:8,9.
3. Wife is to be a help meet -- Gen. 2:18, an assistant.
4. Wife is to be subject to husband -- Eph, 5:22,23; Col.
3:18; 1 Pet. 3:1-6; Titus 2:5, etc.
NOTE: Husband must accept this place and authority.
5. Wife is to love husband -- Titus 2:4 (and children)
6. Wife is to a keep (worker) at home -- Titus 2:5.
7. Dues owed husband should be rendered -- 1 Cor. 7:1-5.
8. Wife is not to usurp authority -- 1 Tim. 2:12
9. Idleness, busybodying, tattling should be no part of her
life -- 1 Tim. 5:13.
10. Man finds a good thing when he finds a wife-- Prov. 18:22.
V. NOTE THE COMPARISON:
CHRIST ------------ CHURCH
HUSBAND ------------ WIFE
Eph. 5:22-33
MUST HAVE AUTHORITY AND SUBJECTION
and at the same time
LOVE and CONCERN -- AFFECTION.
VI. THIS RELATIONSHIP HAS VARIOUS PURPOSES:
1. Companionship -- Gen. 2:18.
2. Satisfaction of fleshly desires, needs -- 1 Cor. 7:1-5.
3. Procreation, bearing children -- Gen. 1:27, 28.
(And preparing them for their place in society.)
4. Provides order in society, since chaos would reign if man
sought to satisfy his desires as do the lower beasts.
Conclusion.
1. Note Christ's love for the church!! He DIED for it!! For the
salvation of man! You and Me!!!
2. Eph. 5:30 -- Are you a member of his body??
