"HOW MANY SHOPPING DAYS ARE LEFT?"
Introduction:
1. During the holiday season we are constantly reminded each
day by those on radio, television, or in the news papers
of how many shopping days are left until Christmas.
2. These reminders are there so we will continue to remember
to get those last gifts before the day sneaks up on us
and we find ourself unprepared.
Body:
I. HOW MANY DAYS LEFT?
1. This lead me to think about how many shopping days are
left in our life?
2. How many days do we have to be ready for death or for the
return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?
3. In reality, this is our final shopping day.
4. Why? Because we do not know that we will have another day
after today.
5. 1 Thess 5:2 -- Paul wrote, "For your yourselves know
perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in
the night." When least expected. When off guard.
6. 2 Peter 3:10-11 -- Peter wrote, "But the day of the Lord
will come as a thief in the night......"
7. Since we do not know when the Lord will appear again, we
had better make sure that we are making the appropriate
purchases on our last shopping day.
II. WHAT KIND OF PURCHASES:
1. How much time is spent in deciding and obtaining just the
right gift. What do we get for this one, that one, etc.
2. So we spend time shopping, mixing and mingling with the
crowds, looking for bargains, good buys, etc.
3. So, likewise, we need to be investing in the proper
fruits for our soul.
4. Gal. 5:22-23 -- the fruits of the spirit. These are good
for us. There are no adverse effects.
5. These will not need to be returned or exchanged for
anything better or more desirable.
6. 2 Peter 1:5-7 -- These should be added to our shopping
list.
7. Peter goes on to tell us why we should add these things -
-2 Peter 1:8-10.
8. These things make us to not be idle or unfruitful. How
wise it is then to seek, to add these attributes.
III. TODAY:
1. Hebrews 3:12-19 -- Today -- the only day we have.
2. We do not know how many shopping days we have left until
our life is over.
3. Therefore, let us make sure we are perfecting our life
toward God and storing up treasures in heaven.
4. Matthew 5:48 -- Be ye therefore perfect, as your heavenly
Father is perfect.
5. Matthew 6:20 -- Lay up treasure in heaven.
