LET HIM THAT HATH AN EAR HEAR
Introduction:
1. Mt. 13:9, 43; Mk. 4:9, 23; Lk. 8:8; 14:35, etc.
2. Rev. 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22.
3. Surely, it must have been important for Christ to have
repeated Himself so often.
4. Yet, in spite of these many warnings, thousands have closed
their ears to His teachings and warnings.
I. INDIFFERENCE:
1. Multitudes are indifferent about their soul's salvation.
2. There is very little desire to hear what our Lord has
commanded of mankind.
3. Some have stopped their ears, Acts 7:57 --stoned Stephen.
4. Some have itching ears, 2 Tim. 4:3. There are some things
which they want to hear, all else they reject. They will
listen only when it appeases their pre-conceived ideas.
5. Reminds us of Gallio, Acts 18:17. "Gallio cared for none
of these things." SO WHAT!!! Purely indifferent.
6. Little concern of what God has said; no interest in
spiritual matters. Don't bother me with that stuff.
II. WHAT ARE SOME THINGS CHRIST SAID THAT MUST DEMAND OUR
ATTENTION:
1. Mt. 26:40-41. "What, could ye not watch with me one hour?"
(1) Disciples were weary, had gone to sleep.
(2) We need to be alert, ever conscious of Satan and his
wiles. 1 Pet. 5:8.
(3) So often, saints are dozing, sleepy headed.
(4) Not attentive to responsibilities and opportunities.
(5) We need to "watch and pray."
(6) "Let him that hath an ear hear."
2. Luke 10:41. "Martha, thou art anxious and troubled about
many things, but one thing is needful: for Mary hath
chosen the good part...."
(1) How often we need to listen!!
(2) How often we become anxious and troubled about so MANY
things. The things about us. The things of the world.
(3) Not that these things are within themselves sinful,
but, they consume our attention and push the word of
God out of our daily lives.
(4) Jesus said that Mary chose the "good part." She chose
the words of the Master.
(5) Oh, to sit at the feet of the Master and hear His
words. "He that hath an ear, let him hear."
3. Luke 17:12-19. "But, where are the nine?"
(1) How ungrateful the world about us has become.
(2) These 10 men had been cured of the dreaded disease of
Leperosy, yet, nine went their merry way without even
a thought of being thankful, grateful.
(3) We, too, have been cured of a dreaded disease -- SIN.
(4) Are we grateful, thankful?
(5) Do we appreciate what the Lord has done for us; and
still continues to do??? He left Heaven, suffered the
abuses of mankind, eventually dying on that cruel
cross.
(6) Do we, on bended knees, return to give thanks to the
Lord for the gracious forgiveness of sins???
(7) "Let him that hath an ear hear."
4. Luke 14:16-34. The great supper--wife, oxen, field.
(1) Nothing inherently wrong in that they did. Nothing
wrong is having a wife, buying oxen or a field.
(2) Their mistake was that they were too busy to attend to
the important thing; to honor their invitation to His
supper.
(3) There are multitudes today who will not heed the great
invitation extended by our Lord. They are too
enthralled with the world about them; too engaged in
materialism to listen to Jesus.
(4) This danger is not only for those out in the world,
but we, as children of God, must guard against this
error.
(5) We simply cannot afford to allow the "things about us"
to crowd Jesus Christ out of our lives.
(6) What about out Bible study and class attendance? We
just cannot allow these to be unimportant to us.
Conclusion:
1. "Let him that hath an ear hear."
2. Do we not all need to be reminded to listen to the word of
the Lord.
3. John 5:28-29 -- ALL who are in the tombs shall be raised.
4. We must all die, but we shall all be raised.
5. We shall all stand before the tribunal of Heaven and be
judged as to how we have lived while here in the flesh.
6. If you have never obeyed the gospel, "Let him that hath an
ear hear."
7. As a child of God, if you have become careless, "Let him
that hath an ear hear."
