WHAT MUST I DO TO PLEASE GOD?
1. Galatians 1:6-19.
2. False teachers were seeking favor of man.
3. Paul said we cannot please God by pleasing man.
4. We must act on a higher motive than pleasing man.
5. Look at the politician. Most of them are saying the things that
they think you want to hear. Not too concerned with their
ability to keep their promises. Pleasing men.
6. The world in general is seeking to please man, not God.
7. We MUST abandon the idea of pleasing man, even our families,
even ourself. Matt. 10:34-39.
8. We MUST seek God. 1 Thess. 2:4.
9. What must I do to please God? What must you do????
10. We must have the proper attitudes toward God.
I. MUST HAVE PROPER ATTITUDE TOWARD HIS COMMANDMENTS:
1. Christ came into the world to obey the Father.
John 4:34 -- "To do the will of the Father..."
Heb. 5:8,9 -- "Learned obedience by things....."
Christ knew He would not please the Father if He did not
obey Him.
2. We also must obey God to please Him:
Rom. 6:17-18 -- "obeyed form of doctrine...."
1 Peter 4:17 -- God's displeasure against those who do
not obey the Gospel.
Rev. 22:14 -- "Blessed are they that DO his commands..
3. We show our love by our obedience.
John 14:15 -- "If ye love me ye will keep my c..."
1 Jn. 5:3 -- "This is the love of God, that we keep..."
4. When was Abraham, Noah, Israelites, pleasing to God?
When they obeyed His commands, not before.
5. We cannot be pleasing and refuse to obey Him.
II. MUST HAVE PROPER ATTITUDE TOWARD WORSHIP:
1. Christ recognized Spiritual worship:
John 4:24 -- "Spirit and truth."
"Spirit" only, nor "truth" only will please Him.
2. What is our attitude toward worship?
Do we look forward to it?
Or, do we dread it? Wish we did not have to??
Are we glad when it is over?
"Well, that's it for another week?????
3. Heb. 10:25 -- Forsake NOT our assembling together....
4. Col. 3:16; Eph. 5:19 -- Praising Jehovah in song.
5. What is our attitude toward the Lord's Supper?
1 Cor 11:23-30 -- What thoughts are running through
your mind during this most important moment???
6. How can I expect to please God if my worship is not
acceptable?
7. We need constantly to increase our desire and willingness
to worship our God "in spirit and in truth."
III. MUST HAVE THE PROPER ATTITUDE TOWARD THE WORK:
1. Christ was "busy about His Father's business."
2. Jas. 2:14-26 -- Children of God are to do works that are
pleasing unto the Father.
3. Does not suggest that these are meritorious works; works
whereby by we can demand salvation on our own works.
4. these are works of obedience: cf. Abraham.
5. One might be in the "truth," yet, still be "dead."
6. Rom. 12:1 -- Living sacrifice given to Him.
7. Am I working at the business of saving souls?
CONCLUSION:
1. Am I, Are You, seeking to please man of God?
2. Let us strive to please the Father.
3. Must obey the Gospel to please Him.
4. Even over pleasing self, husband, wife, mother, father,
etc.
5. Surely, I cannot allow anyone else to keep me from doing
the Father's will.
