ATTRIBUTES OF LIGHT

Introduction:
   1. John 8:12
   2. John 1:1-5 --  LIFE & LIGHT
   3. The great need for Light. Man cannot live without it.
   4. Interesting to note the various ways in which light has an
      effect on the world.
   5. As light is need in the physical realm --
          Even more is light needed in the spiritual realm.

  I. LIGHT PURIFIES:
      1. An established fact -- Sunlight has been used for years to
         purify; Sunlight in hospital rooms, for patients, etc.
      2. Sunlight destroys germs and diseases.
      3. Christ offers opportunity to be PURIFIED.
          One is cleansed (purified) when obedient to the Gospel.
              Acts 22:16; Acts 2:38; Heb. 10:2ff; Titus 3:15;
              1 Pet. 3:21.

 II. LIGHT BRINGS HOPE:
      1. The dawn of each day brings a new leaf, new life.
      2. Truth is the only true hope in this darkened world.
      3. cf. Lighthouse in storm swept sea -- a glimmer of hope.
      4. Man can have hope because of salvation by blood of Christ.
      5. Hope of the resurrection and eternal life.
      6. 2 Cor 4:16-18 -- look at things eternal.
          1 Pet. 1:3-5 -- living hope.
          Tit. 1:2; 2:13; 3:7 -- Eternal hope.
      7. Do you have a hope of eternity, in presence of Jehovah.
          ONLY through Christ.

III. LIGHT BRINGS SIGHT AND UNDERSTANDING:
      1. How difficult to see on a dark night; use flashlight,
         candle, matches, etc.
      2. Just a glimmer of light helps.
      3. Darkness and light cannot exist together. When one turns on
         a light in a room, darkness is instantly removed.
      4. Man is lost in sin -- SPIRITUAL DARKNESS.
          John 12:35-36 -- Light is available
          John 1:4 -- Christ brought light
          Ps. 119:105 -- "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a
                          light unto my path."
          Ps. 119:130 -- "The entrance of thy word giveth light."
      5. No other source of sight and intelligence (spiritual).

 IV. LIGHT OPPOSES EVIL:
      1. Why is it that most crimes are committed at night?
      2. Light would oppose their evil deeds.
      3. John 3:19-21 -- "Men love darkness because their deeds are
                          evil."
      4. When light enters heart of men, they leave off evil deeds.
      5. When evil enters -- light leaves.  NOT COMPATIBLE.

  v. LIGHT ATTRACTS GOOD:
      1. John 3:21.

 VI. LIGHT REMOVES STAINS:
      1. Sunlight will remove stains from spotted garments.
      2. John 8:32
          1 John 1:5-7
          Acts 26:18
      3. Knowledge of God's Word and obedience to His Will, will
         remove the stain of sin. ONLY SOLUTION FOR SIN.

Conclusion:
   1. Christ came to show the glory of Heaven.
   2. No SUN there -- God is light.
   3. Are you in God's light??
      Or, in the darkness of SIN????
   4. Why not allow God to FLOOD YOUR LIFE with Light???
   5. Mt. 5:14 -- God's children will influence the world.
