SOME FOUR LETTER WORDS
Introduction:
1. Suppose your first grade son's teacher calls on the phone and
tells you that your son has been using some "four-letter"
words on the playground. What would you say? What would you
do?
2. While it is true that when we hear the term "four-letter"
words we automatically think of words which are classed as
"bad words," "language not desirable," "gutter language," etc;
there are some "four-letter words" which are good words.
3. Let us look as some of them in this lesson:
BODY:
I. LOVE:
1. A very powerful word. Found often on the pages of the
God's Word.
2. The Bible speaks of the love of God for man. Jn. 3:16.
3. It speaks of the Love of Christ, who gave Himself for the
sins of mankind.
4. We are told to "love God with all our heart, soul and
mind. (Matt. 22:37)
5. We learn of the love which Christ has for the church.
(Eph. 5:25).
6. We read of the love that should exist between husband and
wife. (Eph 5:22-33).
7. What a wonderful attribute to possess. Being God-Like.
II. CARE:
1. Peter tells us, "Casting all your anxiety upon him,
because he careth for you." (1 Pet. 5:7).
2. "but that the members should have the same care one for
another." (1 Cor. 12:25).
3. Paul expressed the fact that Timothy truly cared for the
members in Philippi. (Phil. 2:20).
4. The word "care" should cause us to "rejoice with them
that rejoice and weep with they that weep" (Rom. 12:15),
CARE ONE FOR ANOTHER.
III. GIVE:
1. Jesus taught, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good
measure, running over, shall they give into your bosom.."
(Lk. 6:38).
2. God's children are to give of their means upon the first
day of the week. (1 Cor. 16:1-2).
3. We are to give of our time, energy, our talents
(ability), in the work of the Lord. (1 Cor 15:58).
4. Remember the words of Christ as quoted by the apostle
Paul, "It is more blessed to give than to receive.(Acts
20:35).
IV. PRAY:
1. Here is a four-letter word not heard very often today.
2. The early church continued steadfastly in prayer. (Acts
2:42).
3. We are to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thess. 5:17).
4. We need to learn to pray for "all men," in "every where,"
(1 Tim. 2:1-8).
5. Pray offers us the opportunity to talk with God.
V. HOPE:
1. Hope is that attribute that gets us out of bed in the
morning and keeps us going through the day.
2. Paul says that hope saves. (Rom. 8:24).
3. Hope is the "anchor" (stabilizer) of the soul. (Heb.
6:19)
4. "And every one that hath this hope set on him, purifieth
himself, even as he is pure. (1 Jn. 3:3).
5. Hope leads us to be workers. (Heb. 3:5,6). As Moses.
VI. OBEY:
1. The Bible uses the word "obey" often to teach us.
2. Children are to obey their parents (Eph 6:1-4).
3. Servants must obey their masters (Col. 3:22).
4. As citizens, we must obey our rulers (laws) (Tit. 3:1).
5. Salvation is promised to those who obey (Heb. 5:8,9).
6. Those who do not obey will suffer punishment (2 Thess.
1:7-8).
VII. KIND:
1. Someone has said, "Be kind, for every person you meet is
fighting a difficult battle."
2. We should each one, resolve to be more kind to people we
meet.
3. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get all people to be
kind. We would have a kinder and more gently world in
which to live.
4. Paul states, "And be ye kind one to another,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for
Christ's sake hath forgive you" (Eph. 4:32)
5. "Love suffereth long, and is KIND" (1 Cor 13:4).
6. How needful this is in dealing with brethren, with our
children, with husband, with wife, etc., etc.
VIII: WORK:
1. 1 Cor. 15:58.
2. John 9:4, "We must work the works of him that sent me,
while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work."
3. John 4:29, "Jesus answered and said unto them, This is
the work of God that ye believe on him whom he hath
sent."
CONCLUSION:
1. Four-letter words. Not the kind the world thinks about, but
very important words.
2. Words which should motivate each of us to do better, to be
better; to accomplish the things which the Father desires of
each one of us.
