"ONE THING NEEDFUL"

Introduction:
   1. Luke 10:38-42.
   2. When we look around us we see that the world is so interested
in so many things that they are unable to be interested in the
      Lord.
   3. Whether or not mankind realizes it, there are some things for
      which each one is responsible.
   4. There are some things which are NEEDFUL:

Body:
  I. ONE THING NEEDFUL -- Luke 10:42, To sit at the feet of Jesus.
     1. How urgent it is that we "sit at the feet of Jesus." That we
learn of His Word. Listen to Him!!!
     2. Martha was encumbered with serving tables. Nothing wrong with
this, except when it keeps us away from serving God.
     3. We must keep things in proper order. There are just some
things that must come first in our lives.
     4. All things needful are found in the Lord's Word. Thus, we
must be willing to listen and heed.

II. ONE THING DESIRED -- Ps. 27:4, to dwell in the house of God.
     1. "One thing have I asked of Jehovah, that will I seek after:
That I may dwell in the house of Jehovah all the days of my
life, to behold the beauty of Jehovah, and to inquire in his
        temple."
     2. We need more desiring people; desiring the Lord's ways. We
are living in an age of neglect. So few are willing to
inquire into His Temple and to dwell therein.
     3. It is a sad thing when people will not take time to be holy.
Too big a hurry, So many "THINGS" to do.
     4. We must have a great desire to be pleasing unto Jehovah.

III. ONE THING I DO -- Phil. 3:13, aim at the goal.
     1. Paul summed up all his activities in one thing he was doing.
     2. every affair of his life was in the direction of the "prize
of the high calling of God in Christ."
     3. Any life aimed at "one thing," one main issue of life will
come nearer being a success than one with no certain goal.
     4. What are our aims? Yours???
     5. Paul might have had many desires, but he laid them aside and
went forward to one thing, he "pressed on."

IV. ONE THING I KNOW -- John 9:25, Now I see.
     1. While this was physical blindness, it would do well to
        compare it to spiritual blindness.
     2. Rev. 3:18--Laodicean church was blind, spiritually.
     3. 2 Pet. 1:9 -- If we fail to continue to add these virtues to
our lives, we become blind, having forgotten that we were
        once cleansed.
     4. The question is: DO WE NOW SEE?
     5. We must ever guard against spiritual blindness; failure to
study and apply God's word to our lives.
     6. Matt. 13:15 -- "Their eyes they have closed." How sad!!!
     7. None so blind as he who wills to be blind.
  V. ONE THING LACKING -- Mark 10:21, Obedience.
     1. It is not enough to say, "I have all things right, except
one, and feel secure about our condition." Cf. Jas. 2:10.
     2. This man was lacking in one thing. He, like so many now, was
        terribly interested in money.
     3. Money is not the problem, but the love of money!!!
     4. "Come follow me." We must obey His every commandment. This
is lacking in so many lives.

VI. ONE THING ASKED -- Matt 21:24, Baptism, from God or man?
     1. Once again, Jesus turned their question back on them. Tell me
if the baptism of John was from heaven or from men?
     2. We need to asked that same question today. Is the baptism of
Christ from Heaven? If so, then you must obey it in order to
be saved from past sins, in order to be pleasing to God.
     3. Have you been baptized??? In the right way??? For the right
        purpose???
     4. The Lord asks that of you at this moment in time.

VII. ONE THING NOT TO FORGET -- Lord not slack concerning promises.
     1. Peter did not want them to be ignorant.
     2. They were unlearned enough to expect to live as they wished
and still go to heaven. NOT SO!!!
     3. Some reason that they are God's children, thus they can do as
they please and still be accepted by Jehovah. NOT SO!!
     4. Many are ignorant of God's Word. Rom. 10:3.
     5. Many arguments made today that reflect an ignorance of God's
        Word.
     6. Ignorance is one thing which will wreck multitudes of lives.
     7. God does not excuse ignorance. Acts 17:30.

Conclusion:
   1. Is there ONE THING needful in your life??
   2. If so, time is still on your side, you CAN repent and pray.
   3. (1) Sit at His feet, learn of Him.
      (2) Seek God's ways.
      (3) Aim at the goal.
      (4) See clearly God's path.
      (5) Obey His every command.
      (6) Submit to the command to be baptized.
      (7) Study His word.
