Wooster Street Cemetery

NOTE: Entry of information from the Hale Collection is underway. Formal transcription of this cemetery is planned, and should be completed early 2000.

The Wooster Street Cemetery is located behind the old jail (now the Danbury Senior Ceneter) on lower Main Street. This cemetery is the oldest burial ground in Danbury. It contains the graves of many of the original settlers of the city, as well as numerous Revolutionary War veterans. The rear half of this cemetery is occupied by the graves of those who were moved from St. James' Cemetery (see separate listing). The cemetery grounds are kept neat, but many of the gravestones have fallen into disrepair. There is a high number of illegible stones, as would be expected of such an old cemetery.
