Suggestions Below are from
I printed from the URL(second one listed above) every topic from "Adding Servers and Channels" through "Remotes" Once you have downloaded and installed the program, make a shortcut of ‘mirc32.exe' and put it in your desktop. When you double click on the shortcut, it will execute the program and connect you to IRC. When you are connected, a "Status" window appears. In this window, you type the name of the channel (room) you want to join by typing, ‘/join #nameofchannel' such as ‘/join #Friendly50s+'. Note: All channels begin with the symbol ‘#'. There are hundreds of channels (some good and some not so good) on the servers such as the Undernet. At least this will get you started. If you click on the 3rd icon from the left, a short list of channels will appear, some of which are IRC help channels. You can add channels that you would like to visit so you don't have always type, /join #nameofchannel. If you want to change servers, click the first icon on the left to disconnect from the server. When you are disconnected, the icon changes to a ‘bolt of lightning.' Go to File/Options. In the window right above the words "Connect to IRC Server" click the little arrow to the right of the window and scroll up or down to find a server that you want such as the Undernet. There are many other servers such as DALnet and IRCnet. NewBrunswick is a very good server on the Undernet. Highlight the server you want, then click on "Connect to IRC Server." There are plenty of people that will help you get started. There will be times when you will get frustrated. We have all been there. Just be patient and don't be afraid to ask questions. Good luck |
