FARNA Systems offers a number of publishing services. We most often act as a consultant for those trying to get their publications in print for the first time. We have experience in self-publishing from limited runs the author has printed to book-on-demand web based publishers. Advice can be offered on getting your manuscript printed by a major publisher. All rates are negotiable based on the type publication and your goals. A sample of typical charges are listed below.
Initial contact should be via e-mail. Include a general description of your work with as much information as possible (subject, estimated number of pages, estimated number of copies desired, type binding desired, etc.). Don't send a copy of the manuscript at this time! Sending a copy of the table of contents would be a good idea, but send no more than 2-3 pages if desired.
ALL SUBMITTED WORK WILL BE CONSIDERED COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL BY THE
AUTHOR (submitter). FARNA Systems Publishing will hold any submitted matter
and communications in strict confidence. Nothing will be shared with any
other party without written consent from the submitter. E-mail from
the address of initial contact will be considered as from the submitter.
A written contract stating this and agreed upon prices will be sent to
submitter for signing along with a copy signed by a FARNA Systems representative.
Work will start as the contract is being sent, but will terminate 15 days
after initial contact if contract is not returned with customer's signature.
Consultation --
Initial contact/consultation is free of charge. There
is a minimum $20 fee that will be used as follows:
E-mail: $5 per e-mail, limit of four questions

Phone: $10 per hour, minimum $10 per call...
and it's your dime. I will return calls at my expense if I am not available
at the arranged time. E-mail or call to schedule time. Times available
include weekdays from 6-9 pm Central Standard Time (CST) and on weekends
from 8 am - 9 pm. I will return calls to schedule a time for a longer conversation.

Flat Rate: If you anticipate a lot of questions
via phone and/or e-mail, a flat rate of $50 for up to 20 hours or $100
for an unlimited number of questions for six months may be more acceptable.
Type setting (using Adobe Pagemaker 6.0) --
Type setting is basically
getting the publication into a "what you see is what you get" format ready
to be sent to a printer. We generally make a master copy of your publication
that can be published in any form you desire. A copy will be e-mailed in
Adobe PDF format (requires free Acrobat viewer to view/print) and a hard
copy printed at 600 dpi sent via regular mail at no additional charge.
A copy in native Pagemaker format can be burned onto a CD (Windows 98 format)
for an additional $10 charge. The PDF copy will also be placed on the CD
as well as a plain text copy and any files sent for inclusion in the publication
(photos, charts. etc.).
Electronic submissions: $0.25-$1.00
per page
Hard copy submissions: $2.50-$4.00
per page
Price depends on size publication and amount of
editing involved. $25 minimum charge.
Typing --
$2.50-$4.00 per page, depending on size of publication.
$20 minimum charge.
Editing --
$0.50-$2.50 per page depending on size publication
and how much editing is required. free estimates upon receipt of publication.
Include return postage for hard copies, or I will destroy hard copy if
a fee can't be negotiated. Grammar is only guaranteed to be at a typical
high school level, I'm not a grammar expert!
Design --
We will design your flyers, pamphlets, booklets,
or larger publication for you! This will be included as a free service
along with consultation and typesetting fees.
Printing and Binding --
FARNA Systems has contracts with several printing services.
We charge 10% over our actual cost plus shipping to you. Make sure you
check out local printing costs first!
All charges are paid in advance.
Prices will be agreed upon in advance of any work
being done.
Once agreed upon prices will not change.
All work is final once accepted by submitter.
Corrections after acceptance can be made, but there
may be a small charge.
CREDENTIALS:
The owner of FARNA Systems Publishing has been self-publishing small
publications since 1985. This includes two "fan zines" (black and white
magazines of 10-30 pages on limited subjects, FARNA's were all 24-34 pages),
four books of 100-200 pages, four booklets of 20-40 pages, and various
flyers and pamphlets. He has several years training in technical writing
of all sorts for the U.S. Air Force. College classes in English, technical
writing, and creative writing have been taken for two associate degrees
(Construction Management -- completed-- and Instructor of Technology and
Military Sciences -- pending) for the USAF. He is currently an instructor
teaching in the construction field for the USAF at the Naval Construction
Training Center, Gulfport, Mississippi. Engineers for the USAF, Army, and
Navy are trained there.
