Bill Powelson's School of Drums

Complete Course in Drum Set Techniques

ORIENTATION and KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT
*** For All Levels ***

Be sure to check-out each of the LESSON MENUS on the left.

THIS IS WEB SITE #3. You are at Bill Powelson's, Homestudy Institute of Drums. The objective of this particular web site is to help serious students of drums decide which lessons they should study next, depending on their individual level of ability at the drum set.

All you have to do is find your level, and plot a new course of study, then follow it, one-lesson-at-a-time. I have devised several ways to help you do that.

If you feel lost at any point, e-mail me and I'll help for free. I love this stuff! This whole thing is a fun pastime for me. I totally enjoy and HOPE to meet each one of you via e-mail. So, check-out the LESSON MENUS for a few seconds, then return and finish reading this page. You will find my personal E-MAIL ADDRESS on the "ABOUT HSID" page. It's on the menu at the top of nearly every web page, at every web site within this course.

BEGINNING DRUMMERS may not need this web site at all, yet. Beginners and the curious should go immediately to web site #1. CLICK THIS LINK AND FOLLOW THROUGH . . . ONE-LESSON-AT-A-TIME. After that, just study any lesson you may be interested in studying, or come back here. You may also e-mail me at any time for special help and tips. I LOVE E-MAIL.

INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS AND ADVANCED STUDENTS may need this web site. The objective here is to help you decide exactly what you can and should study next, so that you can advance even more. If you know all the 5 basic beats by heart and if you are jamming routinely with all forms of music already, you decide. Just be certain you are truly aware of the importance of THE BASIC BEATS in all music styles. If you are aware of all that, then it's ok to study any lessons, on any menus, that do not seem too difficult. There's really no special order or lesson plan that must be followed, after the basics have been established. If you study the things that interest you most, you'll probably have more fun, and that alone will lead to increased success.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You may already know what you need to study. Check out all the lesson menus and study everything that interests you. E-mail me if you are in doubt at all. I've been teaching professionally for more than 45 years. As I get to know you, I'll be able to direct you immediately to what you need most. Do not be afraid to e-mail me for special help! I'd love to meet and help you! See, "ABOUT HSID", ON THE TOP MENU FOR MY E-MAIL ADDRESS.
ADVANCED STUDENTS: Look in the left column, right now . . . and investigate the possibilities!
If you are in doubt about where to begin . . . be sure to click on the 'Knowledge Assessment' tab (top menu) and read it, for additional guidance and help. Or . . . EMAIL ME! Tell me what you can about your knowledge level and experience level. I'll offer suggested lessons and guidance in the same way I've been doing it for years as a private teacher. YES! I CAN help you, even if you 'think' you are the baddest of the baddest! If you are REALLY BAD, and do not like to do E-mail, GO TO MY 'SISTER SITE'. It has been designed with the Intermediate to ultra advanced students in mind. Though it contains most of the same lessons as this site, it may offer better directions for the Intermediate, Advanced and Ultra Advanced students.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

ENJOY THE LESSONS AND REMEMBER THIS ALWAYS: For every 15 minutes of lesson study, you should devote no less than 1 hour of fun jamming with recorded music. Jamming is the secret to success! There's no substitute! Without it, the lesson knowledge is useless! If your objective is to learn quickly . . . do not skimp on the jam-time.

ADVANCED STUDENTS: Look in the left column, again. With this, you really will be bad!

CURIOUS BEGINNERS!
  • Beginners and the curious should START HERE. There is no question about where you should start.

  • If you have questions about holding the sticks, kicking the pedals or being left-handed, click this link.

    For tips on tuning drums, buying drums, or set ups, look on the top menu bar of any of the three web sites for those answers.

INTERMEDIATE, ADVANCED, OR ULTRA ADVANCED STUDENTS:

  • I have a SPECIAL QUESTIONNAIRE setup. It is designed to help me discover a lot about your previous knowledge and experience, without making you write it all, in an e-mail note. It essentially asks you the same questions I would ask you on the first lesson, if you came to me for private lessons. With your HONEST input at that form, I'll easily be able to assess exactly what you should study next.

    So . . . If you are totally perplexed as to which lessons you should study, go to the KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT FORM, and answer the questions as honestly as you can. It will send your input to me via e-mail, and I'll e-mail you back with a list of lessons that should be just right for you as an individual. (NO, there isn't a charge for this. It's free too.)

    Go to the KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT FORM NOW and fill it out, then hit the 'Submit' button. I'll take it from there.

    KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT FORM.

  • If you are opposed to doing that, simply go to Site #2. It has been designed totally with the Intermediate and Advanced students in mind.

  • Bills Bio. . . Take dis link only if you wanna meet da teach'.
