Tatting Shuttles

Dora Young started collecting shuttles in 1967. Her collection today consist of 260 shuttles dating from 1860's until 1990's. Dora's shuttle collection may be seen in the near future along with the original manuscipt to her book "All New Knotless Tatting Designs" in a traveling exhibit. This picture shows both sides of the same shuttle, it is an excellent example of the variety of oxidation colors seen on Hard Rubber shuttles. This shuttle is marked in the center with the initials N.R.Co. for the Novelty Rubber Company. circa 1880's

Another Mystery shuttle, marked "A.J.K. reg G.S." G.S. most likely stands for German Silver. If you know what A.J.K. stands for I would love to hear from you.
