Los Angeles - August 30, 2000 - The Japanese Language Scholarship
"Aurora" Foundation is pleased to announce their first
Aurora Challenge Grant winner, Mr. Matthew D. Marr.
The Primary goal of the grant is to provide
support for a USA citizen who resides in California and has a
unique dream, in any field of endeavor, which is related to Japanese
culture and which would never be possible to realize without
traveling to Japan between fall of 2000 and summer of 2001.
Matthew D. Marr is currently working as a research associate
for UCLA's Center for the Study of Urban Poverty. He will be
pursuing a Ph.D program in sociology at UCLA in the fall of 2000.
He would like to use this grant to continue to pursue his life
long objective of contributing to the amelioration of homeless
in the US and Japan.
Matthew, the winner of the Aurora Grant, and Tracy Ann Pollard
and Mr. James J. Buoye, the winners of the second annual JLSF
scholarships will attend the award ceremony which is tentatively
planned for Saturday, December 2nd, 2000. Detailed information
about the event will be announced in the near future.
