Hong Kong Girls With Guns

In the Line of Duty 5

Cynthia Khan's third outing as Inspector Yeung. The plot is actually quite complex and well-developed for a simple HK actioner. To explain it in detail would be confusing, but here it is in a nutshell. Yueng's Cousin David, who is in the Navy, visits her in HK while on leave. While there David meets up with a friend, Alan, who, as it turns out, is involved with a spy organization headed by "The General" that is stealing secrets from the U.S. After a series of events, Alan is killed, and because of his friendship with him, David is wrongly accused of being a spy. Soon David is on the run, hunted by the CIA, the cops, and The Generals assassins. Yueng, acting outside the law, teams up with him to find the "The General" and help clear his name.

This movie is packed with quite a bit of action, although some of it is quite unremarkable. The action scenes just don't have the same "oomph" and pale in comparison to "In the Line of Duty 3 & 4." That's not to say there aren't any good action scenes in this movie at all. The opening action sequence is good with Cynthia doing a flying kick through a car windshield, and then fighting on the back of a truck. There's final showdown that is worth waiting for, first Yeung and David vs. the General, and then Yeung vs. Kim Maree Penn. The two female fighters first duke it out with fists, then in a scene that made me cringe, throw each other through glass display cases, and finally face off with Samurai Swords in a well-exucuted duel.

I really enjoyed this film even though it was a weak entry into the In the Line of Duty series. I think what attracted me to it was the involved storyline and the attempt at developing the relationship between Yueng and her cousin. Oh, and Cynthia is beautiful, as usual! She still displays that savage intensity that she had in the first two films of the series. So, even though it might not be the best entry in the series, there's still some great fights, and is worth checking out
