Welcome! We are a chapter of the National Audubon Society. Our territory goes along the Pacific Coast of Los Angeles County through Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Playa del Rey, Marina del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades and Malibu.
Mission Statement: The National Audubon Society's Mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds and wildlife for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity. As part of this, our chapter's particular mission is to be a center for wildlife education, habitat protection, and conservation issues that involve birds.
All submitted articles, letters, drawings and photographs will be considered for publication in our print newsletter, the AUDUBON imprint, as well as our web site, in an effort to stimulate and encourage an active participation in the natural sciences, conservation and birding.

Evening Meeting Our program will be “Behavior of Hummingbirds” with Tom Kaminski. Palos Verdes/South Bay Audubon member Tom Kaminski owns and operates the Avian Video Center. His production credits include Hooked on Hummingbirds, Hooked on Galapagos Birds, Fiji: Paradise Found, and other nature and travel videos. He launched his business in 1997 after 30 years in broadcast journalism, college teaching, and corporate communications. Kaminski began his career as a reporter for the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service. He later worked as a broadcast journalist for commercial stations. In education, he taught at Long Beach State and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Kaminski's interest in birds was kindled by visits to Kenya, Central and South America, and the Galapagos Islands in the 1990s. He started specializing in hummingbirds in 2001 after a brief stay near Ramsey Canyon in Southeastern Arizona. Kaminski currently is producing a new Galapagos program, Hooked on Galapagos Beasts, and conducting research for the forthcoming Hooked on Hummingbirds, Part 2. A native of Riverdale, Maryland, Kaminski holds an MS degree in mass communications from San Diego State University. He and his wife Jan reside in Rolling Hills Estates. We
meet at the Ken Edwards Center, 1527 4th Street (between Colorado and
Broadway), Santa Monica. Parking is under the building; metered spaces
are free after 6:00 p.m., and there are numerous free Visitor Parking
spaces on the lower levels. We meet on the first floor – the room
number will be posted. Meetings begin at 7:30 sharp with a little
business, and then our main presentation. Refreshments will be served. |
