Bemidji State University
Offers a unique four-year degree in model making and design education.
Bradley University Uses on-site LOM in courses of instruction.
Brigham Young University
Provides FDM and LOM services, and instruction in rapid manufacturing processes.
Carnegie Mellon University Shape Deposition Manufacturing (SDM); also see Rapid Design Through Virtual and Physical Prototyping and the LOM-based LaserCAMM web page.
Case Western Reserve University Developing layered sloped-edge cutting systems plus powdered metal and ceramic materials technologies related to RP.
Columbia University Art to part explorations in association with NJIT.
Clemson University RP software development, design for freeform processes, and integration of RP with conventional processes. The Clemson Engineering Technologies Laboratory also offers RP and RE services.
Cornell University Research aim is to develop a single fabrication machine capable of producing complete working electromechanical devices with only raw materials, energy, and design information as inputs. Batteries (esp. Zn-air) are included! The Fab@Home project is an open-source effort to design, develop and manufacture an inexpensive syringe-based additive fabrication machine and related software. The components to build the device can be had for as little as US$2,500, and a variety of materials can be used for building, from silicone to chocolate. The project is led from Cornell, but there are participants from all over the world.
Drexel University Selective chemical liquid deposition for mini-structures and microsystems (SCLD-MEMS) technology is being investigated. Droplets of organometallic compounds are injected through a nozzle and decompose to produce solid materials on a hot substrate. Functional MEMS can be made. Other projects include scaffolds for bone tissues.
École Polytechnique, Université de Montréal
Several RP technologies are available in the Mechnanical Engineering Dept.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Undergraduate students have access to a stereolithography machine for engineering projects.
Georgia Tech Rapid tooling is a main area of research interest, and work is also being done in laser jet chemical vapor deposition (LCVD). The RP&M Institute is a university / industry collaborative effort.
Iowa State University
The Center for Industrial Research and Services is a university / industry collaborative effort that provides 3D Printing services. Here is a direct link to their product design page.
Kalamazoo Valley Community College
Industry / University collaboration providing FDM services.
Laurentian University Mining Automation Laboratory (LUMAL) (Canada) The university and Inco have developed an application for mining. Replicas of ore bodies are fabricated using RP for analysis and training of hard rock mine engineers.
Lehigh University A group headed by John DuPont is using LENS ® (Reg. trademark of Sandia National Labs. and Sandia Corp.) to manufacture parts with complex shapes.
