 The Rapid Prototyping Mailing List (RPML) is an on-going conversation among 1,500+ people. Edited and categorized archives can be found at the RPML site of Helsinki University of Technology. The Compleat RPML Archives, however, are the entire contents of all messages posted from 1/11/01 through 6/20/08. There are the equivalent of thousands of pages of printed information which can be used as a source of advice, case studies, contact information, expert individuals and market data.
Anyone can join in the RPML discussion, or simply lurk. Go to the RPML's main page for complete directions on how to use the list and subscribe.
Data Files:
The messages are concatenated into text files and compressed into several ZIP files. The files are intended to be downloaded, decompressed and searched locally on your PC using a word processor or other text editor. Note that it isn't necessary to download the entire set. You can download only recent material or historical data, if you wish.
Cautionary Notes:
These files don't include original email attachments, and may not be absolutely complete for the dates indicated. If you really want an attachment, please let us know. We can supply them at very low cost. Messages that simply say, "Thanks," have often not been saved. However, there were very few of those, especially from grad students. HTML has been excised - mostly, but there's still some there. Live with it. Flame wars may be included. Duplicate messages are possible, even likely.
A Useful File Search Tool:
Thanks to our friend Erkut Negis in Turkey for finding this gem. InfoRapid is freeware written by Ingo Straub that permits search for text in nearly any file in many ways, including Boolean operators (AND, NOT, OR and NEAR) and phonetic searches. Files can be viewed with built-in viewers for text, HTML, RTF and common image file formats such as BMP and JPEG. You can also download the software at the Simtel web site.
