ICON
1:4 scale sculpture portrait WHAT'S GOING ON: Right now, I am cleaning up 7 casts of the bust in preparation for a coat of primer, while also working on a mold of the custom base. I have been distracted lately by the idea that what this project needs (now that it is winding down) is a companion piece, to give it some context when displayed in my little shrine of pop-culture artifacts. The other figures/objects in my display case are from movies and television shows, and I want to make a bust of another musician/singer for a little balance. However, I have been having some difficulty choosing the second subject. It must be someone that has attained the status of an icon (at least to me), and maintained it through longevity, but also someone whose product I admire and consume. No other singer or musician has really done that for me. I have started a basic sculpt of Siouxsie Sioux, and will see how that goes.
2/24/05 Oh, it's been a nightmare. Every time I try to work on this thing, something else comes up that is more important or just plain distracts me (ooo, lights... I must have ADD or something), and I put this project on the back burner. The latest challenge is a couple of "quickie" 1/6 head sculpts (yeah, right), to replace heads that came with Sideshow's BTVS Faith and Willow figures. It should only take me a week or so (yeah, right) to do those, then it's back to Siouxsie Sioux. I actually already have her bust roughed out. I need to decide what hair and dressing she will sport, but the preliminary sculpt is done. |
this portrait started out as some leftover Super Sculpey stuck to a VHS tape box
E2 (10/1/04) - added shirt, changed bridge of nose, redid eyelids/lashes,
changed jawline
AP (10/30/04) - first artist proof
Sioux - rough draft - (2/24/05) - just a teaser for now. I've come to realize
that her eyes are a little too close together, but it's going okay for a project
still in the beginning stages.
