Instructions for Making an Outline using Word

 

1. Go under View and select Header. Put your cursor in the Header Box and type in your name and the title of your paper. Then put your cursor under the Header Box.

2. Go under View and press outline mode

3. Go under Format and press Bullets and Numbering

4. Go under Outline Numbered and select your choice.  Press OK

5. Type your first Roman Number, press enter

6. If you want a section to go to the next level, put your cursor on that line and then press Shift + Alt and the right arrow key or you can click on the arrows on the tool bar. Or you can use the little arrows at the top of the page.

7. To promote a level do the same thing but use the left arrow key.

8.  To move something, highlight the line, then press Shift + Alt and the up or down, left or right arrow until it gets to where you want it.  Word will automatically renumber. You can also use the little arrows at the top of the page.

9.  When you’re done and satisfied with your wonderful outline, go under View and press Print Layout.

10. You should now have a beautifully organized outline.  Word will do great things for you, but you’re the one who has to think of what you want to say.
