SATIRE - PART 1
|
||||||
| The backs of the cards in
this series appear in one of two styles, both
printed in black. One type shows a detailed
engraving of the Arbuckle factory buildings and
docks, in a horizontal format, while the other
contains only the standard "Four
Points" sales pitch (Type
'3'), in a vertical format, explaining the
virtues of Arbuckles' Ariosa Coffee. Both styles
have the card number printed in the lower left
corner. To the best of my knowledge, all card numbers in the series may be found in both varities. Note: Some of the vertically formatted cards which have the "Factory" back can be found with the factory scene oriented in either direction relative to the front of the card. While the common orientation could be described as having the top edge of the front of the card aligned with the right edge of the back, I'm aware of at least 8 cards (#'s 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 48, 49, and 50) which also exist with the front top edge aligned with the back left edge. (Thanks to Martin Murray and Jerry Anderson for confirming the existence of several of those cards.) If anyone knows of any other cards in this series with this alternate orientation, please let me know. |
