Welcome
The Community Association of Progressive Dominicans/ Asociación Comunal de Dominicanos Progresistas (ACDP) is a multi-services organization that collaborates with New York city residents on projects that are designed to empower them to enhance the quality of their lives.
Our MissionTo promote and develop the physical, emotional, social and economic well being of the residents of Upper Manhattan, the Bronx, and New York City by facilitating community empowerment through education, the provision of human services, and the development of individual skills and community leadership.
Company ProfileACDP was founded in 1979 and incorporated in 1980 as the first corporation to focus on the needs of New York’s Dominican immigrants and the communities in which they live. It led the successful parent-organizing drives of the 1980s which resulted in the construction of eight new public schools in Upper Manhattan. It began to provide direct service and training programs in 1987 with the opening of after-school, ESL and GED programs. In 1992, it contracted with the Department of Parks and Recreation to take over the underutilized Highbridge Play Center which is located at Amsterdam and 173rd. Street. It succeeded in turning the 125,000 sq. ft. building into Upper Manhattan’s only 7-day-a-week youth and community center, now used by more than 1500 residents weekly. From 1992 to 1998, it grew from an all-volunteer group to a community organization with six sites in Upper Manhattan and the West Bronx and 50 full- and part-time staff. It coordinates the cost-effective delivery of services to New York city residents in six critical areas: Education and Youth Leadership; Public and Mental Health; Food and Nutrition; Immigration and Citizenship; Housing; and Economic Development. Its integrated programs nurture and challenge individuals and community institutions to foster community-building and to celebrate diversity while opposing all forms of stereotyping and discrimination.
