Eric Norelius, an immigrant Swedish Lutheran Pastor, founded
Minnesota Preparatory School, in Red Wing, in 1862. The same year,
it was relocated to East Union, and, in 1865 became St.
Ansgar's Academy. In 1876, the school moved to it's present location
in St Peter, where it became known as Gustavus Adolphus College. It
