*First created, in 1685, of Plymouth Colony.
*County seat: Barnstable.
Barnstable County is located on the southeastern Cape Cod hook of
Massachusetts, with the Cape Cod Bay to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the
east, the Nantucket Sound to the south, and south across the sound are the
Massachusetts counties of Dukes and Nantucket. The Massachusetts county
of Plymouth is at its western boundary.
