The Rev. Martin SHERER.
     He was born at Pfaffenhofen, Diocese of Augsburg, Germany, July 28, 1830; came to America, December 22, 1854; ordained priest at Lafayette [Tippecanoe County, Indiana], Indiana, October 24, 1858.  He was the pastor of St. Joseph's Church, Laporte [La Porte County, Indiana], for a period of about nine years.  From here he paid frequent visits to Michigan City [La Porte County, Indiana], continuing to attend the Germans here until the arrival of Rev. George Steiner.  In 1859, he organized St. Martin's Congregation at Schimmels [La Porte County, Indiana].  His name appears on baptismal records of Klaasville [Lake County, Indiana], February 26, 1867.   During the absence of Rev. B. Rachor, he and other priests attended St. John, from October 1866 till November 1868.  Later he was a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, in the state of Missouri, where he died.
