Archdiocese of Newark, NJ from 1853
The Diocese of Newark was formed from the Archdiocese of New
York* in 1853 to include all of New Jersey. In 1881, the
Diocese of Trenton was formed, from
the
Diocese of Newark, to encompass 14 of the New Jersey counties.
Prior
to 1853, northern New Jersey had been a part of the Archdiocese of New
York* and southern New Jersey was a part of the Diocese of Philadelphia.

born 10 Jan 1607 at Orleans, France, and was martyred, on 18 Oct 1646,
