    Prior to 1853, northern New Jersey had been a part of the Archdiocese of New York and southern New Jersey was a part of the Diocese of Philadelphia.
    The Archdiocese of Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) which originally included all of Pennsylvania, Delaware, and the southern half of New Jersey.
