Please note:  The geographic area encompassed by the Dioceses and Parishes may vary slightly from the civil town/county boundaries.  Generally, the earlier the era being researched, the more likely the pastors and missionaries served a wider geographic area, so it may be helpful to learn more about the development of the dioceses (see History Notes), check neighboring counties, and research the civil county/state boundaries of the era in question as well.  Within the county area, I have tried to place the parishes in order by the reported year of establishment (oldest to newest) rather than by town or alphabetical order.  It is hoped this may help in identifying the still existing parishes which were most likely to have been in existence during the time period being researched.
Keep in mind some earlier churches no longer exist, others have been renamed, and new churches have been built.  Also, a church may have been in existence for many years prior to it's having a resident pastor...In such cases, it is likely that the priests who visited the church (as a mission for instance) entered the sacramental records in books at their own home parishes.  Though an effort is being made to include more information concerning such changes, this site is a work in progress.  Should you find an error, or have helpful information to add, please contact Ann.
