From early 17 century until 1870, the Catholic Mass was celebrated sporadically by the Catholics in Vaxjo. From 1870, they were members of the Catholic parish of Malmo. In 1951 the English Passionist fathers arrived to Vaexjoe to start a more regular work. A house at Ulriksbergspromenaden 34 was bought. The small chapel, in the house was inaugurated 1952, but it was only in 1954 that Saint Michael's parish was formally established. The parish included the regions of Smaland, Blekinge and Oland, until 1971, when the region of Blekinge was separated from the parish. Today the parish comprises the region of Kronoberg.
